In the closing months of 1956, plans were afoot at Renault in France to launch a more powerful version of its Dauphine model and the Gordini team under the leadership of Amédée Gordini was tasked to work their undisputed magic on the Dauphine engine.
The Gordini company was renowned for transforming production cars into accomplished racing cars and modifying regular engines for competition in endurance and grand prix racing. This was the start of the Dauphine Gordini project and the forerunner to a long and distinguished partnership between the two. |
Dauphine Gordini 1957 - 1967:
In January 1957, Renault and Gordini officially joined forces and their shared Passion for Motorsport became a reality.

Renault 8 Gordini 1964 - 1970:
The Renault 8 Gordini, fondly referred to as ‘the Gorde’ had launched in 1964 and earned its stripes at that year’s Paris Motor Show. Renault’s Motorsport Department and Gordini then teamed up to produce a sports version, a formidable rally contender that went on to clock up 172km/hour plus - an incredible performance.

Renault 12 Gordini 1970 - 1974:
In 1970, the torch was passed to the Renault 12 Gordini and on 19th July, over 2 000 Gordini owners from all over Europe descended on Le Castellet Circuit to celebrate “G-Day” and witness the launch of the Renault 12 Gordini sports version of the Renault 12 saloon.
